On Saturday two teams of Forestville students participated for the first time in the FIRST LEGO League Jr (FLL Jr) Expo at Macquarie University. For several weeks leading up to the Expo, the students met each Thursday lunchtime along with teachers Ms Wilson, Ms Parsons, Ms Osborne, Mrs Zouain and Ms Howe. Our team mentors, Iain and Kimmy also met weekly with the team to provide greatly appreciated guidance and assistance.
Each year, FIRST LEGO League Jr. presents a new and exciting Challenge to ignite the creativity of children age 6 to 10. Each team of up to 6 children begins the exploration of this real-world theme with an exclusive LEGO® Education Inspire Model. Using this model as a starting point, they design a new model of their own with LEGO® elements. As they work, they learn basic engineering and programming skills with LEGO® Education WeDo and apply those concepts to make their model move. Teams also document their work in an Engineering Notebook and share their journey through a team
This was the first year that Forestville students participated in the Expo and we are extremely proud of the outstanding effort and enthusiasm these students put into preparing for the Expo.
Our Forestville Robonaughts were presented with the best 'On Display' award for their category and the Forriebots were presented with the 'Cooperation Rocks' award. A huge congratulation goes to the teams:
