During the July school holiday break, Mrs Wellings, Mr Baker, Ms Costa, Mrs Mackenzie, Mr Ellis and Ms Amery visited Cambodia and spent time teaching and learning in the Happy Days schools. It was a very humbling experience with the teachers buying and providing lunch of a banana, a bread roll and a rambutan or two for lunch for the students daily, running a combined sports day (something these students never do), teaching English in classrooms and riding with students for a picnic lunch to the temples.
The teachers worked with students from ages 5 to 19 (some children don’t start school until they are 7 or 8) and were amazed at both the respect and appreciation they received by these students, who at times were part of a group of 70 in a classroom.
Twenty four more bikes were donated, 8 to the senior school and 16 to year 6 students in the primary school in order for them to travel to high school. We would like to again thank our P&C for their support and kind donation.
