Student opportunities and activities

At Forestville Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs include:

Our extra-curricular highlights

Leadership opportunities

Year 6 School Leaders
Our leadership program enables Year 6 student leaders to attend the Forest Network HPGE Leadership Day, where they collaborate with peers with peers from other school to enhance their leadership skills.
Student Representative Council
Students from all year levels can join the Student Representative Council (SRC), empowering those with leadership qualities to have a voice in the school community. This initiative fosters student engagement and encourages them to contribute positively to their peers and the school environment.
Year 5 and Kindy Buddy program
Our buddy program is where Year 5 students are paired with kindergarten students, to provide support and friendship. This program aims to ease the younger students' transition into school, promote positive relationships between different year levels, and foster a sense of community. The Year 5 students act as role models and mentors, helping the younger students navigate the school environment and build confidence.

Dance

Dance is part of the Health/PD/PE program and is implemented in all stage programs.

An extra performance dance program is run at the school in lunchtimes.

These groups perform at school events, eisteddfods and other community events.

Drama clubs

Junior drama club
The Junior Drama Club gives students the opportunity to explore performance through engaging Reader’s Theatre presentations. With a focus on vocal expression and storytelling, students bring characters and stories to life using minimal props and plenty of creativity.
Senior drama club
The Senior Drama Club provides students with an exciting opportunity to develop their creativity, performance skills, and teamwork in a supportive and engaging environment. Meeting after school across two terms, students rehearse and prepare for a full musical production. Along the way, they learn about acting, character development, improvisation, and stagecraft, while also building confidence and resilience. The program culminates in a live performance that showcases their energy, imagination, and collaboration to the school community.

Choirs

Forestville PS have 3 choirs. They perform in a range of eisteddfods, festivals and school-based concerts throughout the year.

  • Year 2 choir
  • Junior choir - Years 3 and 4
  • Senior choir - Years 5 and 6

Public Speaking

Debating Club

Debating offers students a valuable opportunity to develop public speaking, teamwork, and critical and creative thinking skills. At the start of the school year, students participate in debating trials, and a select group is chosen to join the program. These students attend weekly training sessions during lunchtime to hone their debating abilities. They then apply their skills by competing in the Premier's Debating Challenge against other schools.

Debating is an excellent activity for students who enjoy challenges, collaborative teamwork, and demonstrate perseverance.

Public Speaking Competitions

For students in years 3-6, this competition encourages primary school students to explore ideas of multiculturalism in Australia while they practise their public speaking skills and improve their confidence.
