Educating our students for a changing world

Skills required for jobs of the future

The average 15 year old is predicted, throughout their lifetime, to have:

17 jobs over 5 different careers

Over one third of 15 year olds are not proficient in the skills they need for the future of work such as science, maths, technology, financial literacy and problem solving.

Launched in 2015, the Foundation for Young Australians’ (FYA) New Work Order research series, has analysed how disruption to the world of work has significant implications for young Australians. To read more click here.

In the future, every occupation will undergo change. In addition to a higher level of emotional intelligence, eight key, transferrable enterprise skills our learners will need have been identified (The New Basics, 2016).

The key enterprise skills include:

      ➢ Problem solving

      ➢ Creativity

      ➢ Communications

        ➢ Teamwork

      ➢ Financial literacy

      ➢ Digital literacy

Education for a changing world

The NSW Department of Education's Education for a Changing World project examines the strategic implications that advances in technology will have for education. You can read more about it here.

The Department has commissioned a series of essays, speeches, videos and podcasts from distinguished Australian and international authors and thought leaders to stimulate discussion about the future of education in an AI (artificial intelligence) world and skills students will need to thrive.

The Edspresso Series podcast explores implications of developments in AI for education, with a focus on thinking skills and ethical citizenship.
