Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Forestville Public School, we provide the following Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE) classes for students:

Combined Christian SRE

Combined Christian SRE is provided by teachers who are authorised and trained by the following approved providers: Anglican Diocese of Sydney The curriculum can be viewed at whysre.com.au.

Teachers are authorised by the NSW Board of Jewish Education (BJE). All teachers have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC ) and wear a BJE nametag while they are teaching SRE lessons in the school.

You can view the Scope and Sequence document and curriculum information page here: https://bje.org.au/program/scripture/

Primary Ethics

All volunteers are checked, trained and authorised by Primary Ethics to conduct Ethics classes in the Department of Education schools.  Ethics teachers/volunteers undergo re-accreditation each year in relation to Child protection training and all have the appropriate Working With Children Check and National Crime Check certification.
