Year 5 Dancesport

Our Year 5 Dancesport program culminated last Monday night in a thrilling Gala Challenge competition and showcase that was held at the State Sports Centre, Homebush.

Forty enthusiastic dancers were then chosen to compete at the Gala evening accompanied by Mr Guzman and Ms Amery. It was at the Gala that our beaming dancers, dressed to the nines, were pitted against 20 other Public Schools from the Northern Sydney and Beaches Region, many of whom which have been competing for some years in Dancesport Challenges.

Every one of our dancers behaved admirably and performed their best on the evening, resulting in our couple finalists winning several medals, including winning a wild card entry to the Cha Cha couples final event.

Having to overcome competitive heats to begin with, our dancers walked away very satisfied, winning 5th and 10th places in the couples Cha Cha final, 9th place in the couples Salsa final, and 6th place in the couples Swing final. Not too bad for a first time effort for Forestville Public School at the annual Dancesport Gala Challenge.

While the gala finale was a competition, the main emphasis of the entire program for all our students was to develop participation, confidence and instil great enjoyment in ballroom dancing. A positive change in student maturity and especially dance skills was witnessed by many staff as they progressed throughout the term.
